This has been a very full, busy day. We pulled orders all day long. Now tonight we had to make places for everything. I'm sure that I moved a million pounds of canned food today, by the case. We didn't need as many books, just 3 baskets full. But I have already checked in, labeled and put them away.
Tomorrow we need to pick up and load all the frozen food orders. We have one big chest freezer full and waiting for us to load into the truck. We carry two freezers in the truck. They're already pretty full. We also have three BIG portable freezers. I hope that we have enough room.
We went across the street to Porter Hospital to get our lunch. They had a blockade set up in the hall way. Three employees stopped everyone and asked if they were sick. The employees were wearing surgical masks and gloves. I'm sure they were looking for anyone with the swine flu. Seems like the hospital is where you're suppose to go if you're sick.

April 29 Denver, CO
When we got to Denver this morning, our schoolmates and friends, Jan and Anna (Carrick) Schultz were waiting to take us to lunch. We had a wonderful time together. Jan just had a new battery put in his heart yesterday. So he was charged and ready to go today! It's so amazing what doctors can do now. We were so happy to be able to spend time with them.
After we finished playing, we went to work double time. We got a good start on pulling the pre-orders for the next part of our trip. I'm sure it'll take all day tomorrow too.
We're back at the campground that charges for the showers. Other then that, it's a nice place.

Sometime during the night, Jim got a lot older. Today is his birthday. I think he's 75, but he doesn't think so. We celebrated by going out to breakfast at IHOP. Nice difference from our traditional cereal.
We drove from Texas to Colorado this afternoon. We even spent about 50 miles in Oklahoma. It started out cold, then we drove through drizzly weather, fog and a bit later we had the air conditioner on. We ended up with cold and windy.
We had supper at Wendy's and got our parking place for the night. We had to have time to get our list of food and books ready for tomorrow. It's amazing how quickly we can sell out of some things. The Denver ABC says we have about 40 orders to gather in the next couple days.
I finished reading two books today. I finished "Embrace the Impossible" by William Johnsson. Wonderful book, very readable and interesting. It has lots of Church history and his life story.
I also read Ben Carson's "Gifted Hands". What a story! What a man!

This was another night that we didn't get supper until almost 9:00. Our sale was suppose to go from 4:00 - 7:00. But people just kept coming in. So we kept selling.
One lady asked me to recommend books for her daughter and son-in-law. I never could figure out just what kind of look she wanted. I just prayed for wisdom. Unfortunately the lady didn't know what she wanted either.
I just realized today that I really messed up. During this last year, I should have been keeping track of all the books I've read, and made quick book reports on all of them. Then you could have decided if you wanted to read these books and the boss would have known that I've been working. Maybe I'll make a second blog and do that for the ones who want to know about the books.

April 26 Lubbock, TX
We drove to Lubbock this afternoon. Some trips seem so much longer than the others. We did stop and get some groceries. That helps to break up the trip some.
We got to our sale about 30 minutes early. We opened about 5 minutes later. The trailer was full the whole time. Actually, the first couple in there was also the last couple out. They must have looked at every book we have.
By the time we closed up, had supper and got to the RV Park, it was 9:15. We don't like eating that late, but don't have much choice sometimes. It also makes for very short evenings.

April 25 Abilene, TX
We went to Church at the college Church in Keene. We didn't see anyone we knew. Very surprising!
This afternoon we drove to Abilene. Our sale tonight was pretty small. Maybe between 10 - 15 people came.
There's a nice breeze tonight. It should make great sleeping.

Finally I got in the shower house here. Each individual shower is bigger than our truck house! It's not fair.
I did our laundry this morning. I met a lady as we were entering the buildings. She's a Seventh-day Adventist too, so she was very interested in our Bookmobile. I gave her the 'grand tour'. Every book I recommended, she bought! This is the second sale we've had since our last 'real' sale.
We spent a little more time at the Texas ABC and more time working in the truck. That's pretty much under control now. We're very well loaded and ready to go.
The Lockwood's invited us over to supper at their house tonight. She fix haystacks - good ole traditional Adventist food. Can't buy that at McDonald's. The food was good, but the fellowship was even better.
We got to watch Patty milk her goat, bottle feed the baby goat, feed the kittens and smell the dog. (Dog meets skunk, skunk sprays dog, we smell dog!) They have a wonderful garden also. It's like a farm in the city.
It was a wonderful, relaxing Friday night. Great way to start a new Sabbath.

Remember the key we needed for the shower/ They still weren't open by 9:00 am, so I had to shower in our giant 2'x 2' shower. By waiting his turn, Jim got to use the real showers. At least we do have a shower.
We worked hard at the store today. The store is in two buildings, with the food in one and the books in the other. So we ended up walking back and forth several times. It was hot and windy. So we got lots of fresh air and exercise. It was a good day.
Jim took the truck in to fix the air conditioner. Even though we've had lots of tings go wrong with the truck this year, it's always been when and where we could fix it. Last trip we never would have had the time to fix it. So it's fixed and ready to go.
I took the time to get a haircut today. That's also hard to work in, besides wanting to trust a new person to cut your hair every time. This lady was good. She took about 10 minutes to wash my hair. She messaged my head that whole time. It was almost as good as a back rub. And besides that, I think she gave a good haircut.
Emery and Patty Lockwood took us out to super tonight. Jim and Emery lived about a mile apart in Harper, KS, growing up. And he was in my class at Enterprise. We had a wonderful time together.
Patty keeps a blog too. Hers is so peaceful and laid back. Mine is always life or death! But opposites attract and I like her!

April 22 Keene, TX
Boy is it hot! Actually it's only in the 90's, but it feels humid. And compared to the weather we've been having, it feels hotter.
We started restocking at the Texas ABC this afternoon. It's fun shopping here because they have such a big store. Lots of variety.
I have most of my books picked out and Jim has the canned food in the truck. So tomorrow he has the frozen food to deal with and I need to put the books on the shelves.
We went to a Mexican Restaurant with Mickey Johnson tonight. He's the store manager here. It's always so nice to get better acquainted with the other managers. He is so helpful and kind. He even gave us his truck to drive while we're in town. We might stay a couple months!
I wanted to do laundry tonight here at the RV Park. You have to have a key to get in there and the showers. The front desk people didn't give us a key. Now we can't even take a shower until they're open in the morning.
We also need to get the air conditioner in the truck fixed tomorrow. It was smoking when Jim turned off the truck. That's not good news when it's so hot out.

April 21 Abilene, TX
Especially for a middle of the day, we had a great sale. Sometimes the people are so glad to see us, that they'll come anytime day or night! (Almost)
We drove from Midland to Abilene today. We had time to get with Ron Welsh and his son, Brian. Jim and Ron worked together for Christian Record Services for the Blind. Ron just moved to Texas. It was nice getting to meet his son, Brian. We've spent a lot of time in prayer for him. He's been in Iraq, twice. He was blessed with safe tours of duty. Praise God!

This was mainly a travel day. We also had a chance to get some office work done, such as banking. It's easy to get behind on stuff like that.
We had to park about 3 blocks from the bank and walk. Nice day for a walk.

April 19 El Paso, TX
The weather has been so beautiful the last few days. It's actually been almost hot. We had the air on, but mostly just to move air in the truck.
We were so close to Mexico today that you could see the houses. We were maybe a quarter mile away. Every place we have left to go is up hill from here - or maybe just north.
El Paso is a fun place to do a sale. They usually do a fund raiser lunch during our sale. It brings more people for us and we bring more for them. We had a good sale.

April 18 Las Cruces, NM
What a gorgeous day. The temperature is perfect, no wind and lots of sun. Can't get much better than this. We took a nice long walk today.
We had a big sale tonight. This is the Church Don Blystone attends, so he was there to help us. When we have so many sales, it's really nice to have an extra person to help carry out. Don used to work at the Press with us years ago.
Jim finally read my blog today. He was wondering where we've been and what we've done. Maybe even why!

April 17 Las Cruces, NM
Today Jim's youngest daughter and her one year old son are having birthdays. And we are 1000 miles away. Happy birthday Kim and Miles!
Yesterday Jim realized that the engine brakes weren't working right. We tried to find a place in Alamogordo to fix it, but no one knew what to do. So we had to drive over a mountain pass to Las Cruces to get it fixed. This was the brakes on the truck. The last time (a month or so ago) it was the brakes on the trailer. We still know God is protecting us. The brakes could have completely gone out without warning. So now they're fixed and we're ready to go.
We drove by the White Sand National Monument today. We had hapes of stopping there. It looked so interesting last year. But we needed to hurry on, to get the brakes fixed. Hopefully next time.
We're in a beautiful RV Park. By far it's the best ever. Each drive-thru area is beautifully landscaped with brushes, trees, and flowers. This must be the home of lots of 'snow-birds'.
Talking about snow, Denver is really getting snowed on. It's only been a few days since we were there. It's beautiful here tonight. I think we'll get to sleep with the windows open again. Tonight there was a bird setting in the bush outside our window, singing to us.

April 16 Alamogordo, NM
After driving 400 miles yesterday and having 2 sales, today was a piece of cake.
This is a neat Church to work with. The Pastor comes on the truck and tells everyone what books he recommends. He bought several himself. He was with us most of the time. His Church members seem to love him. He's very personable.
Last night we slept with the windows open and one less blanket. It was a beautiful spring evening. We must have driven over the international season line as we drove south today. It's winter again. The only warm place is right in front of the heater. It's no wonder that we're sick most of the time.

April 15 Roswell, NM
Tax Day! Have you done your taxes? We got ours done in February before we started this trip. We knew we wouldn't have had a chance once we left home. We barely have time to pay our bills.
What a long day! Jim started driving about 5:15. We got to Clovis about 10:30 for our 11:00 sale. It really wasn't a very big turnout. They want us to come in the evening. Hopefully, next time!
Then we got to drive another 100 plus miles to Roswell, NM. Before they even came in to buy anything, the Church ladies invited us to stay for supper. Everyone who came was so friendly. They always have supper together before their Prayer Meeting. We're planning on coming back on a Wednesday night next time.
The food Naomi Slape made us kept us going today. Jim had a sandwich with her fresh bread for breakfast while driving. We had her soup, bread and cake for lunch as we were cashing up for our noon sale. We would not have had time to stop to eat otherwise.
It's so exciting to watch how God takes care of us, from the weather to eating, plus a million other ways.

April 14 Raton, NM
Boy, did we mess up big time! Our sale tonight is in Pueblo from 5:00 - 7:00. Tomorrow we have two sales. The first is in Clovis, NM from 11:00 - 1:00. The towns are 300 plus miles apart. Without driving all night, we can't get there on time. We drove 3 hours tonight to Raton, just over the CO/NM border. We probably have a 5 - 6 hour trip left. I think we're getting up VERY early.
We had a wonderful surprise in Pueblo. Naomi Slape came early to see us. Last year Naomi, her daughter Carlene and son-in-law, Larry took us out to eat supper. This year she saw our schedule and knew we had a problem. So Naomi brought us supper, a couple days worth! She brought soup, bread, jam, and cake, all homemade. How very sweet of her. We only had time to eat bread and butter tonight, but without that, we wouldn't have had any supper. We have found so many special Christian people on our travels. We are blessed!

April 13 Denver, CO
We picked up the truck, returned the Lincoln, and worked at the Denver ABC a few hours. At 5:00 we thought we were finished. Jim checked the computer one more time to see if there were any more orders. He found 13! We worked hard and fast. It was around 7:00 when we finished. Susanne took us out to supper to celebrate (or just because we were all hungry!)
We started south again. We're staying about 30 miles out of town, Castle Rock. The RV Park was very hard to find. We took a wrong road. It took about a half hour to get turned around.

We just got back from Enterprise Academy Alumni Weekend. That is always a highlight of my year. I love reconnecting with my schoolmates and friends and of course my family.
It's also been exciting to not only help plan our 'class reunion', but the 'school reunion' as well. That's been a full year project. I love being part of the alumni committee. I'm looking forward to continuing with this for the next several years.
So we had a wonderful weekend. I feel revived and ready to continue our long - long road trip.

April 8 Russell, KS
We had a very special motel last night. When we walked in, I definately noticed that it had a very strong smell. The room was even worse. It's so hard to find a motel that we can park the truck, so we tried to ignore it, thinking that it had to get better as we got used to it. NOT SO. We did go to sleep, but by midnight it was so bad that it woke me up. I couldn't hardly breathe. Much to Jim's dismay, I insisted that we leave. The motel offered us a different room, but they had the window wide open and it had the same smell. I decided that I would rather sleep in the truck without heat the rest of the night, verses not being able to breathe.
My problem with the truck right now is that with the heater going, it gets so wet in there overnight. That is creating a horrible cough for me. I've got to get away from it for a few days so I can get better. Either I am real puny or too sensitive to this moisture.
We're on our way to our alumni weekend in Kansas. Since I'm an elected officer of the alumni committee, I feel that it is important to be there. Besides that, I would hate to miss it. So, it'll be next week before I write again. See you then!

April 7 Loveland, CO
We had a sale at the RV Park this morning. Someone camping here went to school at Loveland many years ago. He got hungry for vege food.
We got alot of paperwork and things done in the trailer, then we went to Denver. We spent several hours working there. Then we ate supper at Porter Hospital, across the street. You don't usually think of going out to eat at a hospital. It was good food and certainly easier to cross the street then drive around town looking for a parking place.
We rented a car this afternoon to drive to Kansas for Alumni Weekend. We had a choice of two cars, a Toyota Yaris or a Lincoln Towncar. The Lincoln was $50. cheaper. Hard decision, but we took the Lincoln. We'll probably spend the %50. on extra gas, but we'll be comfortable.

April 6 Loveland, CO
Not much to report today. We took the truck in for maintenance service. It took about 6 hours. They fixed the clutch, shocks and other equally boring stuff. They have a wonderful waiting room, with TV, tables, computer stations, reclining chairs, laundry area, and even showers. The other people had the TV on loud all the time - hard to rest, relax or read.
April 5 Loveland, CO
Our sale was slow but steady. Sales were way down, compared to last year. But it gives us more time to visit and we enjoy that.
We saw Milton and Ruth Dick. Jim knew him from Wichita when they were teens. And we had a chance to visit with Ardis Stenbackken too. They are all related to my sister, Martha Dick.
We're in a RV Park tonight. First thing I did was 4 loads of laundry. We ran out of clean clothes this morning. That was close!

April 4 Loveland, CO
It is so cold and windy. Can't complain too much though since we didn't get the foot or two of snow that they promised.
It was too cold to do anything or go any where,so we just stayed in the truck and read or napped. We had a small sale tonight. We have a four hour sale tomorrow. I hope business is better.
We saw Ernie Pearson and his wife Ruth at Church. We went to school together. He was in the class between Jim and I. I always enjoy seeing old friends.

April 3 Loveland, CO
We're staying at a State Park campground. The weird thing about that is that they charge for the showers. A 3 minute shower cost .75. We don't take long showers, but not that short either. So we decided to shower in our 2' x 2' (with a toilet in the middle) shower. Jim ran out of hot water, and he was first.
It was nice out today, but later it got, the colder and more windy it became.
Our sale was smaller than we expected. We thought everyone would come today because the weather is suppose to be so bad the next couple of days. We're staying on the school campus. We're afraid that if the weather gets too bad, we won't be able to get back here.

My flight to Denver went fine. The weather was okay and the actual flight very smooth. I took a shuttle to the ABC. I got there in time to work a couple hours.
We had a hard time finding a place for supper. The place we put in the GPS was closed for remodeling, when we got there. There was another restaurant in the area so we ate there. We were very under dressed. It was a classy, white tablecloth place. And the food was very overpriced. We shared our pasta dish and still paid $30. I'm glad that we don't find places like that very often.

Chase's first top tooth fell out this morning at 4:00 AM. It was so loose yesterday that it was barely hanging by a thread. By tonight you could already see the new tooth coming in. Grandma got pictures.
I spent the day shopping and visiting with my friend Tina. We've been friends about 35 years now. We always have fun together.

David came over to Laura's to take me to Abilene for Aunt Ruth's funeral. It was great having a couple hours to visit with my son. It was a grave side service. It was very windy and plenty cold. But it was a nice service.
We had a small birthday party for Chase and Cole when we came back to KC. The boys turned 7 and 5 in February and March. It was great being with the boys and Victoria again.
Jim told me about his horendeous trip today. He was driving across Wyoming on I-80. Not only was it snowing, it was blowing snow and drifting. Some places were even a white out. He said they were driving 15 - 20 miles mpg. Sometimes he culdn't even see the semi in front of him, but didn't dare stop. God blessed him big-time! I'm so thankful.

Wow! It feels good to be home again. Cole (age 5) decided to wait up for Grandma, no matter how hard his Dad tried to get him to bed. He was kind of bouncing off the walls when I got here. I laid on the bed with him for 15 - 20 minutes while he got me caught up with his world, then he was ready to go to sleep. He'll be tired tomorrow. And Chase will probably be upset that Cole got to see me first. I love it!!!
We woke up to about 3" of snow this morning. By noon most of it was gone. Jim left me around 12:00 to take the shuttle to the airport, then he got on the road. Before my plane left at 4:00, he was already over the pass and safely on his way. Later we heard there was an avalanche on that highway. God is still watching out for us.
Jim had a decent sale in Rock Springs, WY. Good thing it wasn't a big sale, since he had to do it alone. The bookmobile hasn't stopped there much, if ever, so they were glad to have Jim stop.
When I got into KC, there was quite a lot of lightening. Just now I heard BIG thunder. That's not something you hear in Idaho. If it thundered like this in Idaho, everyone would move out of state, because they would be sure that the sky was falling - well, maybe not!
