Today was probably the highlight of our entire four month trip! We ate at Wall Drug Store, in Wall, South Dakota. That only makes since (?) if you know about Wall Drug.
The short version is that in the 1930's a family bought a drug store in Wall, SD. Wall was a small town on a highway. After 4 1/2 years of very little business, they offered travelers free ice water, just to get people to stop. They advertised with the old 'Burma Shave' type signs, offering the free water. Now you find signs all the way across South Dakota advertising Wall Drug. People drive around the country with bumper stickers on their cars, advertising Wall Drug. Basically the whole town now is Wall Drug. Of course, you know that it was the wife that thought of this brilliant idea. (Was that really the short version?)
We've seen more pheasant today by the road, running across the road, but none laying on the road! Good.
